The latest figures by the Department of Heath show that in England most people are overweight or obese. This includes 61.9% of adults and 28% of children aged between 2 and 15. People who are overweight have a higher risk of getting type 2 diabetes, heart disease and certain cancers. Excess weight can also make it more difficult for people to find and keep work, and it can affect self-esteem and mental health.
Health problems associated with being overweight or obese cost the NHS more than £5 billion every year.
Why a lot of gym plans do not work to fight obesity:
A lot of conventional plans to fight obesity have not shown any measurable achievements to reduce this numbers.
Education on food alone are not enough, people with weight problems have to get moving their bodies more. But it is no wonder that a lot of people being obese, or in danger of this, are not part of the population group joining sports-clubs and gyms out of their personal fun.
So why would it be more encouraging for these people to go to this places just because they get a voucher for it?

On top of this, being seen with other, more fit people, and knowing before that you don´t have the endurance like them, makes a lot of people feel embarrassed. This is a motivation killer and a lot of good resolutions die before any action has taken place.
